Asking for Emergency Prayers

for our

Native Peoples

Dearest Friends,

This e-newsletter is sent to alert you to my concerns. As you check my website, you will find a prayer on my Home Page for Haiti, for Our World, and for the poorest of poor—those suffering here in my own homeland of America.

The Cheyenne River Reservation is in need of emergency help and prayer. I've added links in pictures next to my prayer that will give you more information on the tragic circumstances they are in after an ice storm left 6 inches of ice on wires, knocking down 3,000 electric utility poles across the reservation and also taking out their water supply.

I ask that you pray for the Native American Indian reservations and especially for those suffering in South Dakota. In my books I share some of my experience as a child on the Rosebud Reservation. The Pine Ridge Reservation is known as the poorest county in the entire U.S., and now the Cheyenne River Reservation is so suffering, many without power, heat, even water in below zero weather. As you can imagine, my heart goes out to these, my people, and I thank you for your prayers!

These times are difficult for so many. We must learn to help each other, even if only to pray and then allow ourselves to be guided to action that will bless others.

Thank you for joining me in prayers for our world, for Haiti, for the Cheyenne River Reservation and for all those who are suffering today.

God Bless each of you!

All my love,
Betty

Something to Ponder

From Embraced By The Light: Prayers & Devotions for Daily Living, entry for February 5th:

Heartfelt Prayers Reach Heaven

I saw the sphere of earth rotating in space. I saw many lights shooting up from the earth like beacons. Some were very broad and charged into heaven like broad laser beams. Others resembled the illumination of small pen lights, and some were mere sparks . . . I was told that these beams of power were the prayers of people on earth . . . When we have great need, or when we are praying for other people, the beams project straight from us and are immediately visible. Embraced By The Light– pages 103-104

Their prayer came up to his holy dwelling place, even unto heaven.
2 Chronicles 30:27

Father, thank you for listening as I pray for myself and for others. Bless me to convey my desires more clearly to you in prayer, to make my requests simple and focused and full of loving energy. May I always remember to say, “Thank you,” because showing my appreciation is a part of showing my love for you.

Affirmation: I pray simple, heartfelt prayers that project powerfully into heaven.

Glad I Heeded That Call On My Heart!

—added by Emily

I stopped by a neighborhood restaurant for Chinese carryout. While walking back out to my car I saw a young woman sitting on a bench. She said she was locked out of her van, and the Chinese proprietor was mad because her car was blocking the parking lot. She said she had called someone to help her. I went to get back in my car, but the Holy Spirit told me something was wrong. I got out and asked her if she'd like to use my cell phone. It turns out, the people she'd called weren't coming. I drove her to her friends house, she got a spare key and I bought her back. She was so grateful and she hugged me. I was so glad that I had heeded that call on my heart. When we cast our bread upon the waters...praise God.

Helping a Family to Heal from Loss
 —added by Ree

Just yesterday, I gave a special ornament to a friend for her Christmas tree. She lost her 18 year-old son in a car crash one year ago, just before Christmas 2008. The ornament was in her son's memory with his photo in it and a lovely verse. When she opened it, she said it would be the 1st ornament they'd place on the tree this year. She explained that the family had put up a Christmas tree, and had hung the lights on it. But she had not had it in her to hang the ornaments and the new special ornament would be the help she needed to get started. I cannot tell you how blessed I felt, that I had helped this woman, and her family to heal just a tiny bit. Praise God!

Helping Through a Call to Pray
—added by Heather

The other morning, I was doing my normal routine of prayer and scripture study and my mind wandered to a co-worker of mine. This was a very random thought since we are just casual friends through work. I had an inclination to pray for her (even though this typically doesn't happen to me). So I prayed for her and blessed her and went back to my morning routine. A few days later I saw her at work and asked her if everything was okay with her? I explained about what had happened and that I interpreted it as an indication that she may need a prayer (I wasn't sure how she would react to that). She told me that on that very day she was having a horrible day with other co-workers and in addition to that.... it was her birthday. I was in a state of shock at hearing this. I told her that I hope she realizes that a Higher Power more than herself, cares about what she is going through and knew she needed added energy that day.... through a prayer. After all was said and done, she hugged me, and I was overcome with gratitude that the Lord used me in this way! I'm so glad I listened!

either for yourself or given to others, you may do so here.
