Remembering My Father
on Father's Day

Dearest Friends,
With Father’s Day approaching, I thought of the men in my life who are dads and want to share something about my dad that might bless them and you as well. My father was a true example of a godly man. He had many traits that I looked up to and learned from. Even in the last years of his life, when his health declined and he needed a great deal of care—he continued to be a teacher for me and a blessing in my life.
What makes such a powerful man? My father nearly always had a gleam of light in his face. All who knew him remarked how his blue-grey eyes seemed to always sparkle. He began every day singing his favorite hymns with his beautiful clear voice. He truly was one who approached life with a positive outlook that was contagious to those around him.
Yet there were times he did struggle and many times I remember watching him drop to his knees in prayer. What a man of strength! Often times he would gather us to him so that we could all kneel in prayer.
But he was not always so serious. Sometimes he could be quite silly. He would get this twinkle in his eye and we could tell something was up by his expression. Just the look of utter delight on his face and he would have us all giggling before he even started to speak! Everyone loved him and mentioned that twinkle in his eyes.
He was so proud of us, his children, and would take us anywhere, we knew he loved us and that we were his joy! Many families struggle today and so many children find themselves as adults in need of healing. To all Dads I would say to care for your little ones while they are small. Love them, reflect their worth to them—so that when they are adults they too can pass on ripples of love and strong family bonds as my dad has done.
All my love,
Betty

I Follow A Famous Father
His honor is mine to wear;
He gave me a name that was free from shame,
A name he was proud to bear.
He lived in the morning sunlight,
And marched in the ranks of right.
He was always true to the best he knew
And the shield that he wore was bright.
I follow a famous father,
And never a day goes by
But I feel that he looks down to me
To carry his standard high.
He stood to the sternest trials
As only a brave man can;
Though the way be long, I must never wrong
The name of so good a man.
I follow a famous father,
Not known to the printed page,
Nor written down in the world's renown
As a prince of his little age.
But never a stain attached to him
And never he stooped to shame;
He was bold and brave and to me he gave
The pride of an honest name.
I follow a famous father,
And him I must keep in mind;
Though his form is gone, I must carry on
The name that he left behind.
It was mine on the day he gave it,
It shone as a monarch's crown,
And as fair to see as it came to me
It must be when I pass it down.

Something to Ponder
From the "Embraced
By The Light: Prayers & Devotions for Daily Living,"
Entry
for June 10th:
God Guides Me to Meekness and Humility
Matthew 7:7:”Ask, and it shall be given you…” Ask? I had done that, but I hadn’t been focused enough to know what to ask for. And though I had asked for help, I had not been open to receive it until I let go of my ego and allowed God to guide me to the answers, as he did now.
The Awakening Heart - page 31
The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.
Psalms 25:9
Father, thank you for your direction. Simplicity is the best route to finding answers, so bless me when my ego wants to complicate things and I get caught up in my own wisdom. Teach me to become more humble, more meek, that I remain teachable and open to receive honest and direct answers from you.
Affirmation:
My spirit humbly recognizes the powerful Spirit of God and listens for his guidance.
