Though Embraced By The Light chronicles my near-death experience and amazing journey into the spirit world, its main purpose is to reach hurting souls and bring comfort to them during hardships, loss of loved ones and to help them establish direction when misdirected through daily living. However, perhaps more important than anything else—its purpose is to bring to its reader the powerful message of God's unconditional and eternal love for them.
The message of his eternal love is so important that in just a few short months this small book miraculously covered the globe. Embraced By The Light was and still is meant to reach all those in the world who have been prepared and are ready to receive it.
My life's mission has expanded since "Embrace's" first publication in 1992, and continues to expand as it compels me to find new avenues that will reach and awaken even greater numbers of people to God’s message of love. The experience is a gift from God to us all. I felt his guidance and encouragement as I began to write it, and I followed his direction of how to publish it. Today, I am grateful and humbled as ripples of love return to me from those whose spirits connected to “Embraced” and whose lives are touched and helped by what is given them.
My life was changed by the knowledge given me to share, and it never grows old for me to recall even a single minute of my visit into heaven. My heart still swells with love each time I remember the love I was given there, and I often wonder if any of the hosts of angels look over me with interest in "what on earth is she doing!" My heart and soul work together to keep “Embraced” alive and available, in one way or another, to those searching for meaning in their life and greater understanding of the afterlife with God.
Sharing the message of God's love is my life's work—it is my joy and my love. I stand amazed every time I see God's use of Embraced By The Light for the betterment of his children. I also stand in awe as I see his loving protection over the work he has given me to do. This is his work too, his blessing and gift. And, as his spirit wills it through its eternal love and truths, Embraced By The Light will continue to draw more and more of his precious children to Him.
I pray with all my heart that you feel God's unconditional love for you as you read “Embraced By The Light.” My prayer is that you discover you infinite worth to our Heavenly Father, that if your heart is broken for any reason it is mended through the Savior's healing love. May your every wound be healed and your every sorrow be turned to joy as you feel God's gentle whisperings in your heart that you are his spirit offspring, his perfect design!
With All My Love,
Adding to such accounts as George Ritchie's Return From Tomorrow and Dr. Raymond A. Moody's Life After Life, Betty Eadie's experience offers astonishing proof of a life after physical death. She saw more, perhaps, than any other person has seen of the afterlife, and she came back with an almost photographic view.
Betty was given a message to share with others that has filled millions with hope and a renewed desire to love. Embraced By The Light recounts the people she met, the truths she learned, and the magnificent realitites of the spirit world.
The book begins with Betty's descent after surgery into death. Her spirit leaves her body and travels toward a brilliant light whom she recognizes as Jesus Christ and who is waiting to greet her. Jesus tell's her that she has died but that it is "not yet" her time. Before returning her to her earth life, Jesus sends her on a journey to learn about the spiritual laws that govern us in life--laws that are eternal, laws that if followed, bring God's peace and joy and love into our lives.
In today's world of violence and uncertainty, the message of Embraced By The Light comforts troubled hearts. It reflects everyone's hope for wholeness, for happiness, for abundance in God's love which transforms every sorrow into joy.
At first author Betty J. Eadie shared her experience with only a few family and friends who persuaded Betty to begin presenting her experience before small gatherings consisting mainly of patients and their families that she volunteered her time with in working for a cancer research center. Eventually Betty shared her experience with larger discussion groups such as the International Association of Near Death Studies and various church groups. Her words filled listeners with hope and comfort. Betty knew that God wanted her to share her story with the world but she waited to feel his call and knew that the right people would be there.
Then the day came that Betty felt prompted to begin taking her message to the world. Her friend, Nancy, helped her reserve a room at a local library and post an ad in a local newspaper. Betty was so well recieved that word of mouth soon brought many more invitations to speak at grief groups, churches and local gatherings. Attending one of these events was a women who took detailed notes about Betty's experience and began circulating them among family and friends. Curtis Taylor read a copy of these notes and contacted Betty, who by now, had nearly completed the manuscript for "Embraced By The Light."
In 1992, Betty
met Curtis Taylor who formed Gold Leaf Press with the purpose of publishing her book. Betty felt the time to publish had arrived and she immediately
began preparing her story for publication. By the end of the summer of 1992, Embraced By The Light was ready for the press.
Upon its release,
Embraced By The Light met with instant success. The book's first printing of 20,000 copies sold out within two weeks and its second printing of 30,000 copies sold just as fast. Successive printings drew a similar response and soon Embraced By The Light was headed to the top of the New York Times Bestseller List--something unheard of previously for a first time author or a first time publisher. People who read Embraced By The Light were so touched
by it, they purchased multiple copies for family and friends. In less than a year Betty's book sold one million
copies and in September,
1993, after 17 weeks climbing the charts, Embraced By The Light reached #1 on the New
York Times bestseller list. It stayed there for a record 78 weeks and became the 5th bestselling book of the entire decade.
