Mother's
Prayers

It was a particularly low point
in our family's history. In quick succession we had suffered the loss of
a child, a house, marital troubles, and some pretty significant financial
blows which we couldn't seem to recover from. My husband went from job to
job for about 5 years, but none of them seemed to stick. It seemed that
he was laid off about every 6 months only to take another 6 months to find
a new one. He had just started truck driver's training which took him to
another city. With barely enough to eat, he was living out of our only car,
and we were living on about $400 a month.
With 4 young children
at home, I was limited as to what I could do to help suport the family.
I was cleaning houses to help out, but then I became pregnant with our fifth
child. Two of my dearest friends were trying diligently to have children
without success, and my heart went out to them. When we announced to our
children that we were going to have another baby, my two oldest sons threw
themselves on the couch in tears. "Now we'll be even poorer!"
they cried.
I understood how
they felt. We often went for short periods of time without electricity or
water, taking showers at nearby campgrounds. My boys had to sleep on the
floor of our two-bedroom mobile home, while the girls got the small bedroom.
I felt sorrowful
for the state my family was in, and I began questioning why the Lord saw
fit to bless me with a child while my friends who yearned so much for one
must continue to wait and hope. One night, in sincere humility I asked the
Lord about this as I said my prayers.
That night I had
a dream in which our baby appeared miraculously outside my womb. She greeted
each of her siblings with such joy and enthusiasm that I knew they knew
each other before, and that she CHOSE this family and was ecstatic to be
coming to US!
The next day I
was filled with peace knowing that all was as it should be. Shortly after
this I began spotting and feared that I might lose her. I stopped cleaning
homes and after a while the spotting stopped.
Victoria is now
5 years old and has brought so much joy to all of our lives! Five months
after her birth we were able to buy a house large enough to give each of
our children a room of their own.
Our lives have
not been free of trials, but with them come many blessings too. I didn't
really expect an answer to my "mothers prayer", but the answer
came and continues to boost me whenever I feel down.
