There ARE discarnate spirits who can disguise themselves ... at least to the unwary who explore the psychic realm (and sometimes to the wary). False angels, etc.
IMHO this is why it's best not to play around with psychic stuff, and keep close to God, and to genuine compassion. The more hocus-pocus, or power-centricism, the further from actual compassionate & forgiving love, the farther from truth. IMHO.
